Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten!

Our Pre-K is a Kindergarten prep class. We are the Superheroes for Jesus! The goal of this class is to prepare students to transition smoothly into Kindergarten the following year. We work throughout the school year to strengthen social emotional skills, academic skills, and Kindergarten readiness. This class uses the Learning Without Tears (formerly Handwriting Without Tears) to teach how to form upper and lowercase letters, numbers, strengthen pre-writing skills, and proper grip. We introduce letter sounds and sight words and encourage early literacy with the Step Into Reading sight word books. Students practice writing their letters, names, and numbers independently while also learning shapes, colors, days of the week and months of the year. Basic math skills such as counting, more/less, sorting, making sets, simple patterns, ordinal numbers, graphing, simple patterning, measuring and sequencing are also introduced. Our students absolutely love conducting science and cooking experiments! This year, our students made rain clouds in a jar as we taught about the weather. Every month, the dramatic play area is rotated to keep things new and exciting for students. We utilize many hands-on learning opportunities such as playdough to enhance fine motor skills used to master proper grip, Legos and blocks to enhance STEM & STEAM learning, and academic based learning such as our Kindergarten table, workbooks, and teacher-directed centers. The teachers work with small groups at centers to work on mastering proper pencil grip, proper scissor grip, letter and number recognition and directed art activities. Our goal in Pre-K is to adequately prepare each student to move on Kindergarten or Jr. Kindergarten the following year with the proper academic foundation to build upon.

Pre-Kindergarten students also participate in monthly “fun days” including:

  • Grandparent’s Day in September
  • Orange/Harvest Days in October
  • Thanksgiving Parties
  • Happy Birthday Jesus Christmas Parties
  • Western Days
  • Valentine’s Parties
  • Seuss Days
  • Easter Parties
  • Mother’s Day Parties

Learning Without Tears

Miss Heather Bivens - Lead Teacher

I have been working at Calvary Murrieta Christian Preschool for 8 years now! I was the lead teacher for PM Daycare for 2 years, the lead teacher for the Older Three Year Old class for 4 years, and now, I am the lead teacher for the Pre-Kindergarten class.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Child Development from California State Fullerton. My previous teaching experience includes teaching Kindergarten at Church of Christ in Mission Viejo, working as the afternoon teacher at La Christianita Preschool in San Clemente, and teaching 1st grade for 5 years at Van Avery Prep in Temecula. I use a lot of praise and love in my teaching style. I want to point children to Jesus and share Biblical truths in every lesson!
My favorite scripture verse is Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
