Welcome to Preschool!

Our preschool classroom enrolls children as young as 2 years and 10 months (in August) who are fully potty trained. Our goal is to lay the foundation of social-emotional development, pre-writing, and pre-math skills for our students. We use the manipulatives from Learning Without Tears curriculum to teach how to form uppercase letters, numbers, and self-portraits. We also teach the children their shapes, colors, days of the week, and months of the year. Pre-math skills such as simple patterning, more/less, and graphing are also introduced. Students love to do science and cooking experiments in class. This year, we made crock-pot applesauce, homemade cocoa, cookies, a spring garden, and shaving cream rainbows. In preschool, we rotate our dramatic play area every month to keep it exciting for students. We utilize many hands-on learning opportunities such as playdough to enhance fine motor skills needed to develop proper grip, block play to enhance STEM & STEAM learning, water coloring or finger painting to promote creative open-ended art, and academic based learning such as worksheets and teacher-directed centers. Our teachers work one-on-one with each student at centers to work on mastering proper pencil and scissor grips, letter and number recognition, and directed art activities. Our goal in preschool is to adequately prepare each student to move on to Pre-Kindergarten the following year with the proper academic foundation to build upon.

Preschool students also participate in monthly “fun days” including:

  • Grandparent’s Day in September
  • Orange/Harvest Days in October
  • Thanksgiving Parties
  • Happy Birthday Jesus Christmas Parties
  • Western Days
  • Valentine’s Parties
  • Seuss Days
  • Easter Parties

Learning Without Tears

Miss Kami Leggett - Lead Teacher

This will be my 6th year teaching at Calvary. For the first 4 year, I was blessed to have the opportunity to be a substitute teacher, last year I was the teacher’s aide in the preschool classroom, and now, I am the lead teacher. I have been teaching in public and private schools for over 20 years and hold a Master Teacher Early Childhood Permit. I attended school at University of California Riverside, Mt. San Jacinto Community College, and Riverside Community College. I believe in loving and appreciating each child as they have been uniquely created – just as God made them. My favorite scripture verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
